Linden Youth & Family Success Center

1025 John Street, Linden, NJ (Housed inside the Linden Recreational Center) (908) 290‑3107 Lindenfirstnj@gmail.com

Our organization conducts extensive programming for families and leverages our network of collaborative partners to connect families to needed resources while helping them navigate the complex public assistance systems to ensure that they receive the necessary level of support.  Classes are made available in areas such as parenting, computer literacy, job readiness, financial literacy, life skills and court mandated anger management classes.

For all three CIC locations in Newark, Linden and Roselle, CIC works with families, communities, schools; reentry task forces; youth steering committees; drug and alcohol advisory committees; health and mental health coalitions; homeless coalitions; youth violence committees; a juvenile justice multi-disciplinary team; county-wide faith based coalitions; school advisory committees; United Way community groups and participates in university consortiums and symposiums to help ensure that youth, the justice involved, and families are working towards their success. CIC’s program efforts engage diverse families bringing them to the table in all CIC initiatives.  Family and community are engaged in communication and our program coordinators and educators engage families in ways that are reciprocal.  CIC incorporates group program decision making and employs advocacy efforts where needed.

Lastly, CIC provides comprehensive support, taking a systems approach for family and community engagement that focuses on the family’s welfare.  These practices are woven into every CIC business area: Youth Empowerment, the Justice Involved, and Family Strengthening services.   CIC has created many community partnerships to assist in decision making; to understand community issues and concerns; and to build and create community awareness.  CIC operates as a model of inclusion.

The Communities In Cooperation Community Garden

CIC worked in partnership with First Baptist Church of Linden and Come Grow With Us to establish a twenty bed garden on the church property where the CIC youth and First Baptist congregants maintained this effort.   Upon moving The CIC Linden Youth and Family Success Center program to a new location and remaining in partnership with Elizabeth Works Come Grow With Us, CIC established a smaller garden at 1025 John Street on the side of the building of the Recreation Center that we are seeking to expand.   Tomatoes, eggplants, string beans, collards and melons are a few of the crops that are successfully grown.
